Are you looking for something a little unusual on a recording project?
Fed up with using those same old strings and brass again and again?
How about some really wild, freak-out, Zappa-style improvisation?
What you need is Rock Bassoon.
The bassoon is a relatively modern classical instrument with a long developmental ancestry that dates back to medieval times. It has a warm, unusual and versatile tone and an expansive range from mid-low bass to mid-high treble. The bassoon is best known for it's humorous qualities, commonly referred to as The Joker of the Orchestra, although it is also an especially expressive instrument for sad and mournful passages. Famous examples of the bassoon at work can be heard on Tears Of A Clown by Smokey Robinson, Ivor The Engine playing both the theme tune and the leading role of Ivor, and the dinosaur sequence in Disney's Fantasia (aka Stravinsky's The Rite Of Spring).
Here is what the popular resource Wikipedia has to say about the bassoon, including many sound clips...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bassoon.
I offer are rare service; session bassoon work aimed specifically at Rock and Pop music.
Using my years of experience and knowledge in rock music, I have a unique insight into what bands are looking for to enhance their sound.
I am experienced in recording studio work, have advised many an engineer how best to mic the instrument, am well versed in
the double and multi-tracking recording techniques and have worked with big name producers in top-flight studios.
I am also proud to have worked with some great musicians in this arena and, if you're thinking about using the bassoon in some of your work, I'm glad to be able to bring you some examples here, too.
My existing clients include:-
The Nightingales ~ one of alternative indie's finest, most respected and longest-lived bands
Uncle Frank ~ the band of one "Frank Benbini" of Fun Loving Criminals fame
Evil Dick ~ Leicester's finest proponent of the avant garde (and all-around top bloke)
ist ~ I first worked with ist as a session bassoon player on the King Martha album, long before joining the band. We now use more bassoon than ever.
